The Family Support Center began in 1977 through a collaboration between the Junior League of Salt Lake City and the Utah Association for Children's Therapy (U-ACT). The founding project was the Crisis Nursery located in Sugar House. It was established in response to a pressing need for short-term crisis and respite care for children at risk for abuse or neglect. Since 1977, the Nursery program has expanded to include 2 additional locations in Midvale and West Valley City. Over the years, the Family Support Center has carefully changed, added, and expanded programs to meet the dynamic needs of our community.

Services Offered

Crisis Nursery Services

The Family Support Center is happy to offer free emergency care care for children ages 0-11 to help parents who are overwhelmed. We provide this service in three locations throughout the Salt Lake Valley: Sugar House, West Valley, and Midvale locations.

LifeStart Village

The mission of the Family Support Center's LifeStart Village is to move single parents with children from dependency to self-sufficiency. In FSC's LifeStart Village, single parents and their children move from homelessness or near homelessness into safe, stable housing where they develop the necessary skills to create a stable, nurturing environment.

Family Mentor Program

The Family Mentor Program is a free, personalized, confidential program for the overwhelmed parent. It is provided in the comfort of your own home to help you define solutions specific to your family challenges. Families with children birth to 17 years old will come together during a 75-minute weekly visit to gain the tools they need to strengthen their family. They will learn and practice essential skills in their home rather than a classroom environment. Through this program, parents have indicated an increase satisfaction and confidence as a caretaker. The Family Support Center employs and trains various para-professionals to teach in-home parenting skills.

Parental education

We offer regular parenting classes to the community. Please see the FSC website for available classes in your area.
